Our Grantmaking Process
The Elder Foundation proudly supports Kern County nonprofits through grants that strengthen our community. We fund both capital projects and programs that create measurable, lasting impact in Kern County.
Eligibility
To be considered for funding, applicants must:
• Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in good standing.
• Demonstrate that all proposed work directly benefits Kern County communities.
• Request support for capital projects or programmatic work aligning with one or more of our focus areas:
• Animal Welfare
• Veteran Support
• Youth Advancement
• Community Health
• Arts
Award Amounts
Grant awards typically range from $1,000 to $25,000.
Grant awards typically range from $1,000 to $25,000. Exceptional projects may be considered for multi-year funding up to $50,000. General operating requests are not eligible.
Reporting
Grantees must complete these follow-up and reporting tasks:
• Submit a one-page narrative and outcomes summary within 12 months of award.
• Demonstrate tangible, measurable results aligned with the approved project.
• Remain in good reporting compliance to be eligible for future funding.
• Include photos or testimonials when possible.
Deadlines
Applications due January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15.
• Funding decisions announced 6–8 weeks after each deadline.

- Submit by the posted deadline.
- 501(c)(3) IRS letter
- Completed online form
- Project budget
- Latest form 990, 199 and/or RF-1
- Board list on letterhead
- Supporting documents (if applicable)
